Social media platforms all support Arabic fully, but the experience varies between apps and platforms. Here’s a practical guide to typing and posting Arabic on the most popular platforms.
The Universal Method: Copy and Paste
The most reliable approach on any platform is to type your Arabic text using keyboard-arabic.org, click Copy Text, and paste it into the social media app’s text field. This works everywhere without needing to configure your phone or computer’s keyboard settings.
WhatsApp fully supports Arabic on all platforms. On mobile, you can switch to the Arabic keyboard within WhatsApp by tapping the globe icon on the virtual keyboard. On WhatsApp Web (desktop), you can either type using your system Arabic keyboard or paste text from an online keyboard. Messages appear right-to-left automatically when Arabic text is detected.
Instagram supports Arabic in captions, bios, Stories text overlays, and comments. In the mobile app, switch to your Arabic keyboard to type directly. In captions, Arabic text aligns right automatically. For Instagram on desktop via browser, paste Arabic text from keyboard-arabic.org. Note that Instagram’s character limit applies regardless of language.
Twitter / X
Twitter/X supports Arabic natively. Tweets with Arabic text display right-to-left automatically. Arabic hashtags work perfectly — Twitter treats Arabic characters as valid hashtag characters. You can create Arabic hashtags by typing # followed by Arabic text (e.g., #عربي). The 280-character limit applies per character, so Arabic text uses the same character budget as English text.
Facebook has had strong Arabic support for many years. Posts, comments, and pages all display Arabic correctly in RTL layout. Facebook also auto-detects Arabic content and can serve Arabic-language content suggestions accordingly.
TikTok
TikTok supports Arabic in video captions, profile bios, and comments. On mobile, switch to the Arabic keyboard to type directly in the app. When adding text overlays to videos, Arabic text may require selecting a right-to-left text alignment option depending on the TikTok version.
Tips for Arabic Social Media Posts
Use proper Arabic punctuation — the Arabic comma (،) and question mark (؟) — for professional-looking posts. Both are available on keyboard-arabic.org via Shift+C and Shift+X respectively. Avoid mixing too many Arabic and Latin characters in a single sentence as it can confuse the bidirectional text algorithm and create awkward line breaks. When using emojis with Arabic text, place them at the beginning or end of the sentence rather than in the middle to avoid layout issues.
Arabic Hashtags
Arabic hashtags are fully supported on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. They are particularly powerful for reaching Arabic-speaking audiences. Type the # symbol (which is written before the tag, left-to-right even in RTL context) followed immediately by your Arabic text, with no space.
